Interview with Oliver Schwarz

Since April 1st, Oliver Schwarz has been part of the CREAMETAL family, bringing fresh energy to mechanical manufacturing. In this interview, he talks about his start, the projects that inspire him – and why an MX-5 is more than just a car.

Oli, how did you end up at CREAMETAL – and what convinced you to join?

A former colleague told me about the open position – he had heard about it from one of his contacts. I quickly realised: this could be a great fit. What really appealed to me was the variety of tasks and the expectation to think independently, find solutions, and implement them. That kind of responsibility motivates me.

You’ve been working in mechanical manufacturing since early April. How was your start?

Very positive! The team gave me a warm welcome, and Matteo’s onboarding was excellent. That allowed me to work independently quite quickly. The atmosphere is both collegial and focused – exactly what I like.

What parts are you currently working on?

Right now, I’m machining the vertical shaft – a relatively simple turned part. Before that, I was working on the base plates for the CREA-WHEEL. I enjoy how each workpiece comes with its own challenges – and that you’re trusted with responsibility from the very beginning.

Are there any projects that bring you particular joy?

Absolutely: designing, building, and setting up clamping fixtures. I had such a project right at the start, for adjustment screws. That kind of task suits me well – it combines mechanical understanding with creative problem-solving.

What helps you find your footing quickly at work?

Besides the great onboarding, it’s definitely the open, supportive team culture. You can always ask questions and get help. You really feel like everyone’s pulling in the same direction. That makes it easy to settle in – both professionally and personally.

Now be honest: do you prefer working on CREAMETAL machines or your Mazda MX-5?

(laughs) Both have their charm. The machines here are technically fascinating – but my heart beats even more for my MX-5. Working on it is a kind of balance for me – it’s still tech, but purely for fun.

And when you’re not working or wrenching – what’s your idea of a perfect day off?

A picnic trip to the lake with my partner – ideally with a barbecue and a swim. Or a scenic tour through the Black Forest or over mountain passes, preferably on the motorbike. The key ingredients: nature, technology – and a bit of adventure.
